Backstop Netting & Sports Field Netting in Central Arkansas
Your field needs netting. You need someone to set the poles, fabricate the net to your dimensions, and install it. United Fence has been installing commercial fencing and structural systems in Central Arkansas since 1953. We install backstop netting, batting cage netting, and sports field netting for schools, parks, and athletic complexes. We handle the full scope: poles, foundations, and net.
Backstop and Field Netting, Installed by a Local Fence Contractor
United Fence installs sports netting as a standalone commercial service. You do not need a fence project to get a netting quote. If your backstop structure or poles are already in place, we can hang the net. If you are starting from scratch, we set the poles and foundations and build the full system to your field’s specifications.
We work exclusively with commercial clients: schools, parks departments, municipal recreation facilities, and private athletic complexes across Central Arkansas. Every project starts with a site visit and a quote built on your actual field dimensions.

Where We Install Netting:
Backstops, Batting Cages, and Ball Fields
We install netting for a wide range of athletic applications:
01
Baseball and softball backstops. Contain foul balls and wild pitches. Protect players, coaches, and spectators behind home plate and along the foul lines.
02
Batting cages. Custom-length enclosures built to your practice facility’s dimensions.
03
Outfield and foul-ball netting. Protect spectators and property beyond the outfield fence or along first and third base lines.
04
Soccer field barrier netting. Behind the goal and along sidelines to contain play and reduce retrieval time.
05
Tennis court surround netting. Contain balls, define the court, and protect adjacent areas.
06
Golf netting and driving range barriers. High-tension containment systems for driving ranges and practice facilities.
07
Lacrosse field netting. Goal surrounds and sideline containment for lacrosse facilities.
08
Multi-sport and school athletic complexes. We work with athletic directors, groundskeepers, and parks departments to spec and install netting for any commercial field configuration.
If your application is not listed here, ask. We have been working on commercial athletic facilities in Central Arkansas since 1953.

Baseball and Softball Backstop Netting Systems
The backstop is the most critical piece of protective netting on a baseball or softball field. It stops wild pitches, passed balls, and foul tips from reaching the players on deck, the coaches’ boxes, and the spectators behind home plate.
A backstop netting system consists of the net itself plus the structural system that holds it: vertical poles, horizontal cables, tensioning hardware, and often a curved or arched top section that redirects high foul balls back toward the field rather than into the stands.
United Fence fabricates and installs backstop netting to your field’s exact dimensions. We supply the net, set the poles and foundations, and tension the full assembly. If you have a backstop frame already standing, we can replace or upgrade the netting alone. If you are building a new field or replacing a failed structure, we can design the complete system from the ground up.
For high school, collegiate, or recreational-league facilities, we recommend specifying the mesh gauge, height, and top overhang based on your level of play, field configuration, and spectator exposure. We will walk you through those options during your site visit.
Netting Material: Knotless Nylon
United Fence stocks and installs knotless nylon netting. Knotless nylon produces a cleaner panel than knotted mesh: no intersecting knots to catch debris, deform under repeated ball impact, or create weak points where tears can spread. The result is a more uniform surface with even tension across the full span of the net.
For backstops and batting cages, knotless nylon holds its shape under sustained ball impact. For outfield barrier nets and large-span installations, the lower node count means easier installation and a cleaner sight line for spectators watching through the net.
We specify the mesh gauge, height, and top overhang for your field’s level of play, spectator exposure, and site conditions during the quote appointment.
Pull-Back Netting Systems and Retractable Backstops
A pull-back system lets you retract the net when you need open access to the field, then return it to position quickly. These systems use cables or rails threaded through the net and anchored to steel posts at each end. The net slides along the track and locks in place for play.
Pull-back systems are common at multi-use facilities where the same field hosts baseball, softball, and other sports. They make it possible to clear the backstop for football, soccer, or other events and restore it for the next baseball game without removing and reinstalling the net.
Benefits of a retractable system include protection of the net during off-season storage, faster field turnaround between events, and reduced wind loading on the netting when the field is not in use.
United Fence installs pull-back and retractable netting systems as part of a full backstop build or as an upgrade to an existing structure. We handle the rails, hardware, and tensioning as part of the installation scope.
What Makes Netting Last: UV, Weather, and Reinforced Borders
Outdoor sports netting takes sustained punishment. UV exposure, rain, freeze-thaw cycles, and constant mechanical tension from wind all reduce net life. Here are the construction features that separate netting that lasts from netting that fails early:

UV Protection
Netting without UV stabilizers degrades from sun exposure, turning brittle within a few seasons. UV-treated fibers maintain integrity through years of outdoor use.

Weatherproofing
Coated and treated meshes resist water absorption. Wet, uncoated netting is heavier, which increases stress on the cable system and posts.

Knotted Construction
Knotted nets maintain their grid pattern under impact. The knots prevent tears from spreading across the panel when a ball or equipment strikes the mesh.

Reinforced Borders
The perimeter of a net takes the most stress, particularly at the corners and along the top cable attachment points. Reinforced border ropes and hem stitching extend net life where it is most vulnerable.

Sky Tracks and Top Rails
The track system that holds the top edge of the net determines how evenly tension is distributed across the panel. A properly engineered sky track keeps the net taut, reduces sag, and prevents high points where wind can get under the mesh.
Choosing the right combination of these features for your climate and application is part of what we cover during the site visit and quote process.

Fence and Netting from One Contractor
If your athletic facility needs both fencing and netting, United Fence can handle the full scope in a single contract.
Our athletic fencing services cover the structural perimeter: outfield fencing, backstop frame, dugout fencing, bullpen enclosures, spectator rails, and entry gates. We fabricate fence components in-house and install them using the same crews and post-setting methods we use for netting structures.
Combining fence and netting into one scope means one site visit, one quote, one set of poles going in the ground, and one point of contact for the entire project. Sequencing the fence and netting in a single mobilization is also more efficient than bringing separate contractors to the same field for two separate rounds of concrete work.
If you only need netting, we quote that as a standalone service. But if your facility is also due for outfield fence repair, new gate systems, or backstop frame work, it is worth getting a combined quote before you schedule separate contractors.
How a Netting Project Works: From Site Visit to Install
STEP
1
Site Visit
We come to your field. A rough estimate is available by phone, but a detailed quote requires us to see the site: post locations, ground conditions, access, existing structure, and field dimensions.
STEP
2
Measurement and Specification
We document span, height, top clearance, pole spacing, and any pull-back or retraction requirements. We note access constraints that affect equipment positioning during install.
STEP
3
Quote
We prepare a written quote covering materials, fabrication, and installation.
STEP
4
Fabrication
We fabricate the netting to your specs. Post and hardware materials are ordered to match the structural requirements of your site.
STEP
5
Installation
We set the poles, pour the foundations, rig the cable system, and hang the net. Our crews handle the full structural and netting scope.
STEP
6
Done
We walk the site with you before we leave.
If you need netting replacement on an existing structure, the process starts at step 1 and moves to step 4 once we have confirmed the existing structure meets the load requirements for the new net.

Backstop Netting FAQs
Cost depends on the span and height of the net, the mesh material and gauge, whether you need poles and foundations set or only a net hung on an existing structure, and site-access conditions. There is no standard per-square-foot price that applies across every configuration. The fastest way to get a number is to schedule a site visit. Call (501) 222-1503 or request a quote online, and we will come to your field and give you a written estimate.
United Fence installs knotless nylon, which is the highest-strength option we carry for backstop applications. Knotless nylon holds up well under repeated ball impact, installs cleanly over large spans, and produces a clear sight line for spectator-facing installations. We specify the mesh gauge and configuration for your field during the site visit.
Height and span depend on the level of play, field configuration, and how far back spectator seating sits from home plate. High school and collegiate fields typically require taller nets and longer overhangs than recreational leagues. We measure your specific field during the site visit and spec the net to your dimensions. Do not purchase a net before having someone measure the site.
We do both. United Fence is a full-service installer. We set the poles and foundations, fabricate the netting to your dimensions, and hang the complete assembly. If you already have an existing backstop structure in good condition, we can quote the netting replacement on its own. If you need a new structure, we build that too.
Yes. If the existing poles and frame are structurally sound, we can supply and install a new net without disturbing the structure. We inspect the hardware and cable attachment points during the site visit and flag anything that needs attention before the new net goes up.
The backstop fence is the structural frame behind home plate: the posts, the fence fabric or chain link, and the foundation system. Backstop netting is the taller net above and behind the backstop fence that stops high foul balls, wild pitches, and overthrown balls from reaching spectators and areas beyond the diamond. Some facilities have only the fence; others have both. United Fence installs both.
Net life depends on the material, the UV exposure at your site, maintenance, and how often the net is impacted. UV-treated, weatherproofed meshes last longer than untreated materials in Arkansas’s climate. Regular inspection of the border ropes, cable attachment points, and any impact zones extends service life. We discuss material options and maintenance expectations during your quote appointment.
Yes. We serve all of Central Arkansas: Little Rock, North Little Rock, Benton, Bryant, Conway, Cabot, Hot Springs, Jacksonville, Maumelle, and Sherwood. If your facility is in our service area, we come to you.
We handle the full scope. United Fence sets the poles, pours the foundations, rigs the cable and tensioning hardware, and hangs the net. If the existing structure is in good condition, we can do netting only. But if you need poles and concrete, we do that too. It is all part of the same job.
