Playground and Early-Childhood Fencing in Central Arkansas
If you operate a daycare, preschool, school playground, or public park in Central Arkansas, United Fence installs permanent commercial enclosure fencing for play areas. We do not sell panels and ship them. We come to your site, measure the area, and build a fence on concrete footings that holds its line for years. Commercial clients only.
Playground and Early-Childhood Fencing for Schools, Daycares, and Parks
A play area enclosure fence has one job: define the boundary of the play space so that children stay inside it and unauthorized people stay out. At a daycare or preschool, that means a fence that is latched, that an adult can see through, and that a child cannot climb. At a school playground, it means the same fence integrated into the larger campus plan. At a public park, it means a fence that holds up under weather and daily use without constant maintenance.
United Fence installs commercial fencing for play areas across Central Arkansas. We have been building commercial fence structures in the region since 1953. Every project starts with a site visit and a written quote.

How Tall Should a Playground Fence Be?
Height depends on the facility type, who uses the play area, and your local permit requirements. For early-childhood play areas at daycares and preschools, the enclosure needs to be tall enough that a child cannot reach over the top to release a latch from outside, and the gate must latch at a height a child cannot reach.
United Fence installs play area fencing to the requirements set by the state. We specify height at the site visit based on your facility type and site conditions.

What Is the Best Fence for a Playground?
The right fence for a commercial play area depends on the facility type, the visibility requirements for staff supervision, and your maintenance budget. No single material is right for every application. Here are the main options UFC installs for play area enclosures.
| Material | Visibility | Maintenance | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chain link, galvanized | High. Staff and cameras can see through the full fence line. | Low. Repairs are panel-level and straightforward. | School playgrounds, parks, and facilities where visibility and budget are both priorities. |
| Chain link, black vinyl-coated | High. Same visibility as galvanized. | Low. Same as galvanized. The coating softens the appearance. | Daycares, preschools, and schools where the fence appearance matters to parents and neighbors. |
| Chain link with windscreen | Reduced. Windscreen blocks sight lines from outside. | Low for the fence; windscreen panels replace when damaged. | Facilities that want visual separation from an adjacent street or parking area. Note: reduced staff visibility is a tradeoff. |
| Ornamental iron | High. Open picket design maintains sight lines. | Moderate. Powder coat holds up well; touch-up over time. | Facility entrances, administrative areas, and perimeters where curb appeal matters to the license or permit process. |
For more on chain link and ornamental iron specifications, see chain link fencing and ornamental fencing.
Keeping Children In and Keeping Others Out
An enclosure fence that a child can climb is not an enclosure fence. The goal is a fence that contains the play area reliably, provides clear sight lines for staff supervision, and does not create a climbing route for a determined child or a quick route over for unauthorized access.
The factors that determine a fence’s climbability are the picket spacing, the horizontal rail placement, and the fence height working together. A fence with horizontal rails at mid-height gives footholds. A fence with wide picket spacing gives handholds. Getting both wrong means the fence is a ladder.
For early-childhood enclosures, United Fence installs with a 3.5-inch mesh opening or picket spacing. That dimension keeps small children from using the fence fabric as a foothold and prevents arms from reaching through toward a gate latch.
For facilities where preventing access over the fence is a primary requirement, see our anti-climb fencing page. Anti-climb fencing is also appropriate for perimeter sections of school campuses where the threat level is higher than at the playground itself.
Gates and Controlled Access at Play Areas
The gate is the most important part of a play area enclosure. A fence that contains the area reliably fails if the gate does not latch, does not self-close, or opens toward the street rather than into the play area.
United Fence installs self-closing hinges and self-latching hardware on all play area gates. Additional hardware for early-childhood enclosures includes child-resistant latches positioned above a child’s reach, and panic hardware on egress-only gates.
United Fence installs commercial gate systems as part of play area enclosures. Every gate is hung on a properly sized gate post set in concrete, matched to the fence material and gauge, and installed to open, close, and latch reliably over years of daily use.
Fencing for Daycares and Preschools
Daycares and preschools require enclosure fencing at or before licensing in most states and local jurisdictions. The enclosure needs to define the outdoor play area, prevent unauthorized adult access, and keep children from opening the gate on their own.
United Fence installs commercial enclosure fencing for daycare and preschool facilities. We work with facility directors and licensed childcare operators across Central Arkansas.
United Fence follows the state’s rules and regulations for play area enclosures. We can discuss how your facility’s requirements translate to a built fence during the site visit.
Fencing for Parks and Public Play Areas
Parks and recreation departments maintain commercial-grade play areas across Central Arkansas. Public park play area fencing takes more physical wear than a private facility: weather, daily traffic, occasional impacts, and maintenance deferred longer than a private facility would allow.
Chain link is the most common material for public park play area enclosures because it is low maintenance, easily repaired at the panel level, and available in configurations that hold up under sustained outdoor exposure. United Fence works with parks and recreation departments and municipal facility managers across Central Arkansas. Contact us to discuss your project’s scope and timeline.

Playground Fencing FAQs
Cost depends on the perimeter footage, the fence material and gauge, the number and type of gates, and site conditions. There is no per-foot price that applies across every play area configuration. The fastest way to get a real number is to schedule a site visit. Call (501) 222-1503 or request a quote online, and we will measure your play area and give you a written estimate.
Height depends on the facility type and the requirements set by the state for your facility’s licensing category. United Fence installs to state requirements and specifies height at the site visit based on your specific play area. Gates must latch at a height a child cannot reach without assistance. Call us to discuss the right specification for your facility: (501) 222-1503.
For commercial play areas, the right fence depends on your facility, your supervision approach, and your maintenance budget. Chain link is the most practical choice for most commercial play areas: durable, low maintenance, and high visibility for staff supervision. Black vinyl-coated chain link is a good choice where appearance matters to parents or the licensing process. Ornamental iron works well at facility entrances and administrative perimeters. See the materials table above for a full comparison.
Galvanized chain link is the most cost-effective commercial option. It is durable, low-maintenance, easy to repair, and appropriate for most school, park, and daycare play area applications. Cost still depends on the perimeter footage, gate count, and site conditions. Contact us for a written estimate based on your actual site dimensions.
Yes. United Fence completed a fence removal and replacement at Pulaski Academy while the facility remained in operation. Remove and replace is more involved than new installation: active construction jobs cannot leave any vulnerabilities in the enclosure during the sequence. We assess and plan the sequencing during the site visit. Contact us to discuss your facility’s schedule: (501) 222-1503.
Self-closing hinges and self-latching hardware are standard on all play area gates. United Fence also installs child-resistant latches positioned above a child’s reach, and panic hardware on egress-only gates. Contact us to discuss the hardware configuration that fits your facility’s site access requirements: (501) 222-1503.
In most cases, yes. We measure the enclosure perimeter around existing equipment during the site visit and design post placement to avoid conflict with play structures, drainage, and underground utilities. If there is a configuration that requires equipment movement, we flag it during the site visit before the quote is finalized.
